Dereck Ramirez kicks off 2020 slate at I-37 Speedway

Dereck Ramirez kicked off the 2020 season on Friday evening at I-37 Speedway (Pleasanton, Texas) piloting the Boom-Test Well Service No. 4r Modified entry for the inaugural Rustler. Drawing 33
United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries, Ramirez improved four spots in his heat race to reel in a 3rd place finish. Starting the opening night feature in fourth, Dereck dropped five positions to place 9th.

The following night at South Texas Speedway (Corpus Christi, Texas), Dereck locked his spot into the $3,000-to-win A-Main with a 3rd place finish in his heat. Holding his spot for all 40-laps, Ramirez notched a 9th place finish. (Tyler Rinken photo)

On Sunday afternoon Ramirez stopped at Cotton Bowl Speedway (Paige, Texas) for the second annual Cotton Bowl Clash. Passing six cars in his heat race, Dereck streaked to an 8-lap heat race victory which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the main event. With $3,000 on the line, Dereck gained four spots to place 2nd behind Rodney Sanders with Jason Hughes, Hunter Marriott, and Zack VanderBeek completing the Top-5 finishers.

With the first weekend in the books, Dereck currently sits in fourth in the USMTS National Championship point standings.
