Dereck Ramirez

Podium finish with USMTS at Rocket Raceway Park

Dereck Ramirez was one of 87 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) amassed at Rocket Raceway Park (Petty, Texas) on Saturday afternoon to kick off the 2023 season with the 13th annual Spring Nationals.

With a runner-up finish in his heat relegating him into one of four B-Mains for another shot at the opener, Ramirez edged his way into the show with a second-place run. With $10,000 on the line, Dereck was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on the seventh circuit.

For Sunday’s program that was originally scheduled as a preliminary event, Dereck laid down the second-fastest time in his group before going fifth-to-second in his heat. Chasing Jake Timm and Tyler Wolff to the checkers in the 40-lap feature, Ramirez recorded a third-place finish.

Dereck is currently 10th in the latest USMTS point standings with the first weekends in the books. The team will return to action Thursday, March 23rd, as Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.) host the King of America XII.
