Dereck Ramirez improves 17 spots in King of America opener

Picking back up with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Dereck Ramirez invaded Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.) on Friday afternoon for the two-day King of America X powered by Summit. Drawing 91 cars, Ramirez failed to qualify for the opening night feature in his heat, sending him into the B-Main. Grabbing the third and final transfer spot, Dereck locked into the 23rd-starting position for the A-Main. With $5,000 on the line, Ramirez advanced through the field 17 spots in the 50-lapper to register a sixth-place finish. (Todd Boyd photo)

On Saturday afternoon, Dereck came in third in his heat race before placing second in his B-Main behind Darron Fuqua. Earning the 19th-starting position for the $20,000-to-win King of America X, Ramirez marched forward 14 spots to come home fifth, trailing Brooks Strength, Rodney Sanders, Jake O’Neil, and Terry Phillips across the line.

Dereck remains atop the latest USMTS point standings.
